03 Dec 2009 - CCF 150th Anniversary
Hurst was one of the first schools in England to form its own cadet unit in 1860 in response to a call from the War Office, and at first wore the badge of the 35th of Foot.

To commemorate this occasion the Hurst Johnian club is inviting donations from members for a new CCF Banner. The old one will be laid up in the Chapel. A brass plate will be fixed to the banner poles suitably engraved to mark the occasion and the benefactors. We would also like to contribute towards the decorating of new drums with CCF Crest and rubric marking occasion and benefactors.

Donations can be made on line via the web site or by cheque (payable to The Hurst Johnian Club) and sent to Elizabeth Watson, OJ Club Administrator, Hurstpierpoint College, College Lane, Hurstpierpoint, West Sussex, BN6 9JS

There will be a parade, chapel service and dinner to which all OHJs who served in the "corps" at any time are to be invited.

Details of the anniversary events, together with invitations, will be published in the next edition of the OHJ magazine.

Meanwhile the CCF Contingent Commander Lt. Col. Jim Gowans would be pleased to hear from any OHJs who have historical information, realia or anecdotes regarding the CCF or OTC at Hurst.
